Research
Dr. Robert K. DeLong serves as associate professor in the Nanotechnology Innovation Center Kansas State within the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. The overall thrust in his research program is the impact of nanomaterials on the structure, function and delivery of nucleic acids and proteins. Research has received support from National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the American Physiology Society. His group has a keen interest in the anti-cancer properties of nanoparticles when combined with nucleic acid therapeutics (NAT) and anticancer protein (ACP) and also studies the biochemical and immunological activity of nanoparticles and their application as new fluorescence or bioluminescence-enhanced imaging agents. Dr. DeLong is a co-founder of the Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology and continues to serve on its executive editorial board and is currently serving as a guest editor of the journal, Nanomaterials, in a special issue focusing on their anticancer, biochemical and immunological activity. He has 14 patents or patent applications, one textbook published by Academic Press/Elsevier on biomolecular interactions for the molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory, and has published numerous book chapters and review articles on RNA nanoparticles, their characterization and delivery. Some highlights of the publications and patents generated by the group since he returned to academia from industry are listed below:
